Bridges And Crowns

Do you have cracked, damaged or missing teeth? Crowns and bridges can help you…

Sometimes we can’t repair a tooth. A crown is needed when your tooth has been extensively filled or it is cracked or broken, or when there is not enough tooth structure left for a traditional filling or an inlay or onlay.

Crowns and bridges are cosmetic techniques to restore the appearance of your teeth even where the original tooth or teeth are badly damaged – or even missing.

Clients of A1 dental care Belconnen are directly involved in the design process when improving their smile with porcelain crowns, thus ensuring total satisfaction with the end result.

Crowns

A crown is a strong porcelain sleeve that fits perfectly over any remaining tooth structure, and ensures function and stability. They are generally made from porcelain or gold alloys and strengthen and protect your teeth from further decay.

Bridges

Where a tooth is missing, a replacement tooth can be attached to two crowns, which are then attached to the adjacent teeth. Because the open space is bridged together this is called a Bridge.

Bridges are a strong and stable alternative to dentures, and are an ideal way to replace a missing tooth and to restore full function and aesthetics. A bridge can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth. To construct a dental bridge, we take an impression of your teeth and send it to our laboratory and they are precision crafted by a qualified dental technician.

Benefits of Crowns and Bridges:

  • Durable and resilient
  • Prevent further teeth form shifting
  • Improve your ability to chew and speak
  • Maintain facial structure
  • Restore smile confidence

Crowns and bridges may be used in conjunction with each other to restore your smile.

The Art and Science of Porcelain Veneers

The modern porcelain veneer was developed in the 1980’s and to this day is regarding the most effective method of transforming the appearance of existing teeth without major dental treatment (eg. orthodontics or crowns), offering a straighter, whiter and desirable smile. Veneers are an excellent solution for closing gaps between teeth, and creating a straight and white “Hollywood” smile.

Placing porcelain veneers is an art and a particularly demanding art – a dentist must be an artist to do them well. It also requires considerable experience to master the techniques involved.

Porcelain veneers are thin wafers of porcelain, about half a millimeter thick (the thickness of a fingernail) that are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a smile makeover. They are permanent, custom-shaped and require the removal of roughly .5 mm of the original tooth to allow space for the new veneer. Porcelain mimics tooth structure better than any other restorative material.

The veneers are custom made by our dental lab to match your needs before being permanently fused to the tooth enamel. And unless the surface is damaged they very rarely discolour.

We can manipulate the colour and translucency to re-create the look of any tooth. Done well, they create a beautiful result.

A Full Smile Makeover can make a significant contribution to self-confidence – for both men and women.

Maintaining your Veneers

Like your natural teeth, veneers need to be looked after and treated with care. Like real teeth, they are not immune to strong impacts such as sporting accidents which could normally damage your teeth, but thankfully a veneer can usually be quickly replaced. The key to maintaining a smile is to follow the hygiene instructions provided by your dentist, including brushing, flossing and regular check-ups.

Benefits of porcelain veneers include:

  • Improve the appearance of your smile
  • Whiten discoloured and stained teeth
  • Cover cracks, chips and serrations
  • Close gaps in the teeth
  • Restore the shape of crooked teeth
