DIGITAL X-RAYS canberra AND INTRAORAL PICTURES

World-class dentists, World class facilities = World-class treatment

There’s a reason dentists have so much equipment in their surgeries – many potential dental problems are hidden from view. We have invested heavily in the latest assessment and treatment technologies so we can provide a world-class service without sending you off to someone else. We use up to-date digital xrays , where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Also less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.

On-the-spot diagnosis and assessment We have all the latest diagnostic equipment located on-site.

Our facilities include:

  • Intra-oral cameras – provide an image of each tooth so we can pick up potential problems early.
  • X-ray equipment – highlights tooth decay and bone-loss issues.
  • OPG – allows us to identify problems with the jawbone such as infections, tumours, congenital abnormalities, pre-implant evaluation and trauma.

Intra-oral Camera

The Intra-oral camera allows your dental surgery dentist to see each tooth magnified in colour on a computer screen. Diagnosis is much simpler and the camera allows us to show you clearly what may be wrong. A small, sterilised camera is moved around inside your mouth providing a tooth-by-tooth video examination. We can then freeze and store the picture for a closer look. Still images may be kept for our records for future reference.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays show up your teeth and bones. X-rays can show tooth decay, hidden dental structures and bone loss that may not be visible during a visual examination.

OPG

The OPG is a special method for obtaining radiographs of the teeth-bearing jaws, both upper and lower. This specially constructed machine rotates around the jawbones giving us an extremely good indication of their structure.

This is enormously useful in diagnosing and treating a wide-variety of conditions such as dental trauma, infections, tumours and congenital abnormalities. It is also valuable for pre-implant evaluation.

KIDS

That first visit to the dentist…

Not everyone looks forward to going to the dentist – least of all kids. At A1 dental Belconnen we have many years of experience dealing with children. We want their first experience to be as pleasant as possible so we have created a treatment room with TV in the ceiling showing cartoons and animations to keep the little ones happy and settled.

Early experiences with the dentist can set the pattern for responses throughout childhood so we want to do everything we can to make it right – for you and your child.

When should my child first see a dentist, and why?

The sooner the better. Problems such as such as baby bottle tooth decay, teething irritations, gum disease, and prolonged thumb sucking are best diagnosed early so your dentist can provide or recommend special preventive care.

Well cared for baby teeth are critically important for future dental health. We recommend kids have their first visit to the dentist at around 12 months

What happens on the first visit?

The first session is as brief as possible – usually between 15–30 minutes and it should be as non-threatening as possible. It’s an opportunity for your child to get comfortable with their dentist and the environment.

Rescheduling may be necessary where your child is frightened, uncomfortable or non-cooperative.

Depending on age, the visit may include a gentle but thorough examination of the teeth, jaw, bite, gums and oral tissues to monitor growth and development and identify any problem areas. We will also assess the need for fluoride and give you tips on proper home cleaning.

Sometimes the teeth may need a gentle clean and polish to remove any plaque, tartar build-up, stains and on occasions an X-ray may be required.

Schedule the appointment early in the day so your child is alert and fresh. For kids under two it’s OK to hold your child during the examination, but on occasions it is better that the dentist builds a relationship with your child while you wait in reception.

We go out of our way to make our practice a relaxed and non-threatening environment and all our dentists are experienced dealing with children. Take the opportunity to ask questions.

Preparing for the visit?

Ask your A1 Dental Team about the procedures before the appointment so there are no surprises. Plan how you might deal with the range of responses your child may exhibit. Getting your child excited about showing off their new teeth can build enthusiasm. Explaining what the dentist will do removes the fear of the unknown.

Be sure to bring any relevant records of your child’s medical history.

Preventive Dentistry

A regular visit to your A1 Dental Care Belconnen is an investment in your child’s well being. It’s not just their dental health that is protected but many general health problems can be traced back to poor oral hygiene or untreated dental problems. We recommend that your child visits us every six months. Regular dental visits are as important as a healthy diet, exercise and good sleeping habits in maintaining your child’s general health.
