Dental Fillings Belconnen

At A1 dental Belconnen, we use dental sealants to secure your teeth from decay…

Dental sealants are flowable resin coatings applied to the grooves on the back of your teeth, to prevent them from decay.

Layered protection

Sealants protect these surfaces from tooth decay, by preventing germs and food particles from entering the grooves. The composite can be clear, white or tinted to blend in with your natural tooth colour.

Sealant application

Sealing the grooves in your teeth does not require extracting any of the tooth’s natural structure. After the tooth is cleaned, a special composite is placed on the chewing surface. The tooth is then rinsed and dried for the sealant to then be applied. A heat-activated light may also be used harden the sealant.

Durable compound

A durable sealant can last up to few years if looked after. Sealants should be checked upon each dental visit and can be reapplied if they have disappeared from wear.

Fillings

Tooth coloured fillings can be matched to your exact tooth colour and are proven to be durable and long-lasting. Strong ceramic materials are used to fill cavities in the smile, and go unnoticeable as fillings. Not only are they durable, they are aesthetically pleasing for your entire smile.

Benefits of tooth coloured fillings include:

  • Matched to the tooth’s natural shade.
  • Only requires one visit to the dentist!
  • Less of the natural tooth needs to be removed.
  • Easily fixed to the tooth’s surface and hardened with a special light.
  • Applied in thin layers that leave the filling strong.

Why should I consider tooth-coloured fillings?

Most people have fillings. Traditional amalgam fillings can sometimes be quite visible when you laugh or smile. Fillings are essential, but now they can also be virtually invisible with white or tooth-coloured fillings.

Should I replace my silver amalgam fillings with white ones?

It is usually best to change fillings only when an old filling needs replacing ( defective margins, decay , cracks…..). If so, you can ask to have it replaced in a tooth-coloured material.

Tooth-coloured fillings are normally carried out under local anaesthetic. The affected area is cleared of decay or loose filling and the tooth is washed and dried. The white filling is inserted and smoothed off before a bright light is applied to set it. The filling is then trimmed off and polished.

Inlay / Onlay

Dental Inlay and Onlay can restore cracked or damaged teeth with small amounts of decay…

If you have teeth that are mildly cracked, damaged or decayed, we may be able to use porcelain/ceramic Inlay or Onlay to restore your natural tooth structure. Inlay and Onlay can be created from porcelain or ceramic material to look completely natural.

Inlay

Dental Inlay are used to restore damaged to a tooth that is decayed, broken or damaged on the crest of the tooths surface.

Onlay

Onlay are used to treat decay and cracks that extend below the surface, but are strong enough to be rendered with a thin composite.

Benefits

Inlay and onlay are ways of repairing relatively extensive tooth decay or damage without having to replace the whole outer portion of the tooth as with a crown. Less tooth material is removed so they tend to be more conservative, strong and last longer.

Restoration

An optical impression will be taken with the CEREC 3D camera of your tooth after the preparation and the model of your tooth appears on screen. Whilst you watch, your new restoration will be designed on screen and then milled out of a solid porcelain block. The finished restoration is then bonded to your tooth, just in one single visit.
